About Stanisława Kozlowska (Jankowska)
Stanisława (Stasia and/or Stella) was born in 1920 in Bristol, Connecticut. Her mother, Maryanna Jankowska (Murawska) immigrated to the USA from Wyszkow, Poland where she met her husband, Egnacy Jankowski in Yonkers, New York. Maryanna's husband immigrated from Ploch, Poland. Maryanna was born on December 8, 1899 to John and Peggy Murawski (Krzyzewski).
Stasia/Stella attended Patterson School in Bristol, Connecticut for several years before her mother brought her and her siblings back to Poland.
They traveled back and forth between Poland, but her siblings left Poland for good and Stasia/Stella remained behind. In 1939 when WWII broke out in Poland the only way to leave was from Germany, and afraid that she would be killed, she remained in Poland during the war along with her husband Kazimierz Kozlowski, a native of Wyszkow.
Here is a photo of Maryanna with her three children: Stasia/Stella, Martin, and Krystyna. Martin settled in Torrington, Connecticut and Krystyna (Haig) in Bristol.
Together with her mother, Stasia lived on a farm on Pułtuska Street (ul. Pultuska), in Wyszkow where they farmed their land growing potatoes and raising chickens and pigs.
Below Stasia/Stella is caring for the large sun flowers that grew on their property. This was a typical outfit for Stasia/Stella, an apron and mostly bare feet in the summer.
